Community leaders and urban planners are hoping to map out a clearer blueprint for the future of the Scott Street corridor.
A study released by the Third Ward Redevelopment Council suggested 86 percent of the population in the neighborhoods is black. Many live in deteriorated homes; a high concentration of the population is elderly. More than 30 percent of the residents live in poverty and 37 percent have an annual income of less than $15,000.
Scott impacts an area that has a large college student and resident population and is vital to the redevelopment of the entire Third Ward.
