United In Peace
Peace Ride Against Street Violence
United in Peace Houston organizes “Peace Rides” in neighborhoods plagued by violence and sex trafficking to promote peace and thereby lift the tone level of our communities from apathy, grief and fear of violence to cheerfulness and enthusiasm toward rebuilding our families and communities by promoting conflict resolution and reconciliation, healthy lifestyles, educational advancement, positive arts and culture and economic development. SLAB cars, Lowriders and motorcycle clubs, Hip Hop artists, activists, ecumenical clergy, community groups, family members and victims of violence regardless of creed, class or color were invited to participate.
In collaboration with the Houston Police Department, Peace Riders sought to bring awareness to marginalized communities promoting the idea that peace is preferable to conflict and violence. Houston’s Peace Rides focused on the Scott Street corridor, Westwood at Bissonnet, Independence Heights, and the Greenspoint area.
United in Peace Houston was joined by local Hip-Hop artist, African American Corvette Club, Houston Jeep Club, Justice or Else Local Organizing Committee Houston, Artists Respecting Community, Victory Wellness and Nutrition Initiative, 21st Century Challenge: New Educational Paradigm, Houston Trade Commerce & Entrepreneurship, 10K Fearless Emergency Response Team, Hope Over Hurt Ministries, The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, New Horizon Church, political leaders, and other community based groups.
